THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT THE PALOMAR RC FLYERS

Thank you for considering membership in the Palomar RC Flyers. We are the largest and most active Powered RC Airplane Club in San Diego County. Before you fill out our application, I need to explain to you a few things about our club and what we expect from our members. Our application asks you for a lot of information, (birthday, occupation, spouses name, e-mail address, other interests, etc.). This information helps the club to better serve its membership and it is important that you fill out the application completely.

On Page 2 of the Application, you are asked to select a committee that you would be willing to serve on, if asked. This information becomes a telephone list on the club's database. It enables us to enlist the help of our membership in specialized areas without having to call every member on the roster. Please consider the choices available and select those that you either have a background or interest in.

Page 3 of our Application is a Release form that must be filled out and signed in order to obtain flying instruction from our Club Instructors or other members of the Club. Please fill out and sign this form, so that you will always be able to obtain assistance at the field.

To join, print out all three pages of the Application. Mail the completed application, a copy of your AMA card (or FAX confirmation from AMA) and your membership fee to:

Palomar RC Flyers
P.O. Box 141
San Marcos, CA 92079

Your membership will be voted on at the next club meeting following our receipt of your application. Palomar Flyers meetings are held on the third Thursday of each month at 7:30 pm. Please allow 2 weeks, after being voted in, to receive your Palomar RC Flyers Membership card in the mail. If you have any questions about this application or the club in general, feel free to get in touch with any Officer or Board Member.

The club has established a member participation incentive program. It is called the Palomar Dollars Program. It increases member participation by offering a dues reduction for time spent helping the club. Junior members and Senior members DO NOT participate in the Palomar Dollar Program.  Active duty military and their families pay no dues.

Our club, like others has established rules for our field sites. Please review our Flying Site rules. As we have several flying fields there are certain rules that apply to one but not the other due to geography, proximity to neighbors, roads, airports, etc. The field rules are subject to change as necessary and all changes will be posted. By signing the application, you are saying that you fully understand them and agree to obey and enforce them.

Our clubs' Safety Committee consists of all of the Club Officers, Board of Directors, Instructors, Safety Officers and all of our members. We are all in this together. The safety environment will be maintained. New members are on probation for 90 days during which time any blatant disregard for the field rules will result in the revocation of their membership. After the probation period and as long as you are a member of the Palomar RC Flyers, repeated rule violations will result in the suspension of flying privileges or use of our facilities or revocation of membership. If your membership is forfeited, you will receive in the mail, the prorated balance of your dues. No field assessments will be returned.

The club maintains an instruction program whereby those new to the hobby can learn to fly. This instruction is provided free. You will receive in the mail a blue student handbook. It is meant as a guide for you and your instructor. Your instruction can come from a club instructor or another member as long as said member can safely teach you. Students will take off and land only while on a buddy box (trainer system). A list of club instructors is in the student book and is posted in our monthly newsletter, The Transmitter.

All new members with supposed flying experience must receive a check flight from an instructor, club officer or board member. All new members receive a key to the gate. The key works the locks on both fields. Gate keys are only given in person, so you will typically receive your gate key at the field or at a Club meeting. Make arrangements with an Officer of the Club in order to receive your key. If you fly, this is also a good time to receive a check flight or start your instruction. Locks are changed every January. You receive the next year's key by turning the old one back in at the field next January or at a meeting.

Our Club Meetings are on the third Thursday of the month at 7:30 p.m. Check the Transmitter or the website for details on the location. Every one is always welcome at our meetings. Palomar RC Flyers is a family club. We like to see the wife and kids involved in the club. The kids learn to fly very quickly. Model aviation is about 50% flying and the other half is social. It's a great way to spend some time with the family.

I hope that I have answered some of your questions about how we do business. Palomar RC Flyers is run by volunteers. We are not paid a salary. We are a Non-profit Corporation established estabished under section 501C (3). We are also not perfect, and even though we try to be, mistakes do happen. By working together, we can maximize our fun and minimize our risks. Your consideration in this area will be appreciated. If you have a problem or a question about Club membership, please send an email to info@palomarrcflyers.org.
